Did you know that the DC DMV has a 68-page list of banned license plates?
The list, obtained via FOIA by Government Attic, contains some obviously inappropriate combinations related to profanity, alcohol, drugs, or sex. However, some other prohibited combinations leave us wondering why they’re banned at all.
For example, Kramer from Seinfeld would be sad to learn that “ASSMAN” makes the list of banned plates. And, if you’re a fan of Barack Obama, have a flare for dancing, or like N.C. State or Doctor Who, you’re gonna have to get more creative. Here are some other innocent-sounding (to us, anyway) plates that you can’t get in DC:

So , immigrants from Guinea can get their homeland on their plate, while those from Niger are shunned? tsk tsk.
Kind of funny that only African American racial slurs are on the list.
TARDIS might be construed to be too close to RETARDIS. Obvious hate speech about the “Developmentally Challenged Americans”. Or maybe it’s actually referring to liberal/progressives — which are a bunch of RETARDS.
