MPD reports that they arrested a “female student attending a local University” last night for possession of narcotics and intent to distribute. MPD recovered 1 1/2 pounds of weed, as well as prescription drugs, scales, etc.
Although the below release from MPD did not identify the student or her University, a source indicates that she attended Gallaudet University in our neighborhood.
We are not publishing her name until it is made public by MPD.
UPDATE: the WaPo confirmed the student’s identity as Molly E. Sachs, a current student. The also report that an RA smelled marijuana, leading security officers to search the room, leading to MPD’s arrest.
On Sunday, January 27, 2013 At 10:45 PM, Fifth District Patrol Officers Vamos, Ferris and Sakulich arrested an adult female student attending a local University for violation of the DC Uniformed Control Substance Act (UCSA) Possession with the Intent to Distribute (PWID) Marijuana (approx. a pound and a half or more), also seized over 700 assorted prescribed narcotic pills, scales, plastic bags and other items of drug related paraphernalia.
Also seized were fudge brownies and cookies containing Marijuana packaged for distribution, as well as over $1000 in U.S. currency was also seized as evidence as well as electronic devices that may be linked to a drug distribution network. She remains in custody, was processed for court and will be arraigned in DC Superior Court today.
Members of the Fifth Police District Vice, Narcotic and Special Investigation Division and our Intelligence Unit has been provided this information and will be reviewing for an effective investigative follow up.
These 5D Officers working in concert are well trained and as a team were able to immediately identify, field test and effect an arrest of an individual trafficking narcotics within the District of Columbia with a direct nexus to our community.
